Mining
Discover 5,000 years of history underground
The Mühlbach Mining Museum provides exciting insights into over 5,000 years of copper mining history, which left a deep mark on the region until its closure in 1976.
Under the guidance of an experienced miner, you will embark on a fascinating journey through everyday life underground. In addition to a detailed exhibition with original artifacts, an impressive adventure tunnel awaits you – a highlight not to be missed!

World of ice giants
Eisriesenwelt Werfen - the largest ice cave in the world
A real natural wonder awaits just 30 minutes by car from the Arthurhaus: the Eisriesenwelt Werfen. After an impressive gondola ride, a panoramic path leads to the cave entrance – and with a miner’s lamp and magnesium light, the fascinating discovery tour through the icy sculptures and formations under the mountain begins.
You should plan around 3-4 hours for the excursion. Even in summer, temperatures are usually below zero degrees – sturdy shoes and warm clothing are therefore highly recommended.
An unforgettable experience – cool, impressive and absolutely unique.
The gorge
Liechtenstein Gorge - a natural wonder with depth
The Liechtensteinklamm gorge near St. Johann im Pongau is one of the most impressive gorges in the Alps – and is only around 45 minutes away from the Arthurhaus. Thundering waterfalls, steep rock faces and spectacular footbridges make the path through the gorge, which is up to 300 meters deep, an unforgettable natural experience.
Particularly impressive is the new helix staircase, which winds through the rock in an elegant spiral shape and opens up new perspectives on this natural wonder. The path is well secured and also suitable for children – although sturdy footwear is recommended.
Plan around 1.5 to 2 hours for your visit – for an experience that combines fresh air, water and amazement in a unique way.

Hallein
Hallein Salt Mine
Just 35 minutes from Mühlbach, high above the town of Hallein on the Dürrnberg, lies one of the oldest show mines in the world: the fascinating Hallein Salt Worlds.
Here you can immerse yourself in the history of the “white gold ” – and experience first-hand how salt was once extracted underground. In protective white miner’s clothing, you travel deep into the mountain on the mine train. You will reach the magical salt lake via rapid wooden slides, mysterious corridors and underground paths, which you will cross on a raft – accompanied by a mystical sound installation.
An exciting experience for all the senses – steeped in history, entertaining and unforgettable.

A very special museum awaits you in Werfenweng: an impressive documentation of the history of skiing, spanning from the beginnings of skiing over 5,000 years ago to the modern racing world.
